DDR OSC 5 - Solo Challenge Round judging BLueSS DDR B1 & B2 So we're supposed to judge a little bit if they've made changes; well I frankly do not have the time to run through and give points for each individual change and see if they were good enough or whatever. These charts were all new anyways. For me to even judge changes they had to be significant to the point of me noticing by just playing them. My points for changes also vary depending on how much change was made. After all, this round is *solo* - not "fix up the file." Fixing the file or changing the bpm/gap was just part of making the chart. For songs without significant changes... * TOTAL /30: - Technical accuracy [/4] - Workability of chart relative to song [/3] - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR Solo) [/5] - Use of the extra arrows [/15] (This is what solo is about here.) - Enjoyability of the song [/3] (Solo has all the weird (aka awesome) DDR songs, so every song should be fine for the most part. heh) For songs with significant changes... * TOTAL /30: - Changes made [/5 (up to 5 points)] - Technical accuracy [/4] - Workability of chart relative to song [/3] - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR Solo) [/5] - Use of the extra arrows [/10] - Enjoyability of the song [/3] DDR B1 JUDGING: --------------------- 24 - by alphabet55 - Changes made [3/3] 3 points for nice looking new graphics. Not 5 points worth of changes made to judge, but the graphics were a nice alternative. - Technical accuracy [2/4] The jumps with the arrow sandwiched were a nice way to spruce up the chart, but the slowness of the song got to the steps and some parts seemed boring and slow, just waiting for arrows to come up. The freeze arrow section was nice as it gave some life back in, but overall slow. Yes it's a slow song, but you chose it. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Slow steps, slow song. Check. No need to dock you twice for the same thing. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [4/5] Some of the awkward arrow jumps wouldn't fit in a nice 6 foot DDR chart, but the rest is fine. - Use of the extra arrows [8/12] Left-Up arrow -> Down+Up-Right jump can be awkward, and to throw those into a 6 foot chart when the rest flowed nicely was a nasty thing to do. As well as the up-right+right jump -> left+down jump. Just awkward. - Enjoyability of the song [2/3] One more mention for choosing a slow song that can be boring to play. Even though I like the song.. (as much as one can like a song about suicide) TOTAL - 22/30 --------------------- Disco Dog - by sanchny *No changes noticed* - Technical accuracy [4/4] This song would be in solo. No awkward twists, no urge to double-step. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Middle part with the up-side -> other side arrows gave a nice unique pattern that was really fun. DDR chart this is. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] Nothing noticable. Good - Use of the extra arrows [15/15] Good excecution with using the upper solo arrows based on what side of the pad the arrows were focusing on. That was good to see instead of you trying to throw a up-left arrow when the previous ones were on the right side. Kudos. Perfect excecution of the solo arrows. - Enjoyability of the song [2/3] Short. Song. And you picked it, so -1 for you. :-P TOTAL - 29/30 --------------------- Emoticons - by PkerUNO *No changes noticed* - Technical accuracy [3/4] Few confusing twists and awkward steps, but needed to make it challenging, so not bad. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Nothing to complain about. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] Good - Use of the extra arrows [10/15] Here's a common thing for people who play solo - it is WAY easier to hit those Left -> left-up -> left or right -> right-up -> right patterns by double-stepping and forgetting about using the other foot at all. Using both feet in times like that isn't fun, and the urge to just go heel-toe-heel is just there. Now as those heel-toe parts are interesting, they're not really fun. Also: see the last two jumps of fffff. No awkward jump or hands needed. Hit the two arrows with your feet at the same time. It's almost pointless to have the jumps be that way (or l-lu-l patterns in this file's case). - Enjoyability of the song [3/3] High energy, wooks good. TOTAL - 24/30 --------------------- Fuku Wa Uchi - by the_ditz *No changes noticed* - Technical accuracy [4/4] Interesting patterns mentioned below gave the song a good, slightly difficult feeling without any awkward turning or confusing stepping. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Nothing to complain about. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] Felt and sounded like DDR all around. - Use of the extra arrows [15/15] For those who haven't played solo, there's something that sticks out that is subtle, but very important. Even though it's "solo", every 5 arrows does not need to be one of those diagonals. The execution here was good in that several parts used just the original 4 arrows, and added the other 2 when needed. They were still an important part of the file, but not prominant like the other (but still good) solo files in the challenge round. Several parts that were plagued with doublestepping (like the l-ul-l pattern) were solved by the quick bpm and the inclusion of other steps around it, making it easier not to double-step. VERY good. - Enjoyability of the song [3/3] High energy, wooks good. TOTAL - 30/30 --------------------- Gasolina (Delation Remix) - by TheBaldOneMpls - Changes made [2/2] Recoloring... looks ok. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [3/5] Following the annoying alternative electronic beat got annoying. I hate to write that that this wasn't the ITG round again... but I just did. - Use of the extra arrows [7/13] Ahh, those dreaded runs from fffff are back, but with more more annoying steps like the double jump -> jump-freezes. The whole beginning was the same thing, but flipped each time. Pretty unenjoyable overall. - Enjoyability of the song [1/3] I get the gasonlina part. Why'd you pick this song. Ahh, so boring compared to many other alternatives. TOTAL - 18/30 --------------------- Have You Ever Been Mellow - by IkePie *No changes noticed* - Technical accuracy [2/4] Awkward stretching to reach the corner arrows in places where they shouldn't be is not fun for people who have short legs. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] You made it appropriate, and not overloaded with unneeded steps. Very nice. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] Constant difficulty that reflected the song level was accurate. - Use of the extra arrows [10/15] Ok, except for one thing you kept doing over and over and over. LU->Down->Right or RU->Down->Left Repeated quickly, for people with short legs is not fun. Those need to be shot and killed on the spot. - Enjoyability of the song [2/3] Better than that original Mellow song... TOTAL - 22/30 --------------------- Identity - by jammitch! *No changes noticed* - Technical accuracy [4/4] Probably the best set of runs that are so close to being awkward but aren't. Good. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Very good. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] Good. - Use of the extra arrows [13/15] I almost want to double step before the main down freeze arrow... The ending jumps are very good, and the turns in the song are good. Very well designed technical chart similar to what a HVAM solo chart would be like. Fun, but with a few weird spots - Enjoyability of the song [3/3] You picked a song that sounds like other ones you would normally choose, so nice. TOTAL - 28/30 DDR B2 JUDGING: ============== Bad Boy (AvM Remix) - by Shortysnmn2010 *No changes noticed* - Technical accuracy [0/4] You're local past with ITG style steps is clearly evident. The quick streams are hard to hit in solo, making this harder than most other 9 step songs on solo. The want to double-step for 70% of the song is either a sign it's really chaotic, or just full of awkward turns. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Good - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [3/5] More like an ITG chart, but not too bad. - Use of the extra arrows [15/15] The double stepping isn't because of the solo arrows. That's its own problem. The arrows were added nicely, the beginning jumps worked ok as well, and the turns worked ok - just technically as mentioned before I double-stepped more than any other song I played. Arrow placement for solo worked good though. - Enjoyability of the song [2/3] How many versions of Bad Boy is OSC going to have? TOTAL - 23/30 --------------------- fffff - by #Infinity - Changes made [2/2] Great new graphics. A lot better imo than the other ones (sorry Eggman). - Technical accuracy [3/4] Boring parts at times, switched to chaotic parts went pretty good with the music, but just seemed to make the file overall stop-go feeling. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Went well to the music, although almost ITG styled. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [4/5] Few quick chaotic bursts that were more ITG styled that DDR, so a point off. - Use of the extra arrows [8/13] MOST BORING BEGINNING. Yes it's unique and interesting, but it's like afronova's anchor steps but with 3 times the section and slower - making it more boring and nothing more that "I could do this with my eyes closed" arrows. I do have to say that from the middle on until the very last jumps the rest was good use of the arrows. The last jumps can be hit with one foot on each jump, making them kinda pointless to have it like that. (Take a look at my video if you need a visual) - Enjoyability of the song [3/3] Good enough for me. TOTAL - 23/30 --------------------- High School Love - by Akira - Changes made [2/2] Better than the pixels from before. Art screams AKIRA. lol - Technical accuracy [3/4] Very technical chart for an 8 rated chart. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Rest of the chart was ok. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [4/5] Those quick 12th notes weren't too fun. - Use of the extra arrows [8/13] Measures 46+47 take a double glance to figure out how to play them properly (which is facing the right). Not fun unless you know it's coming, as those are hard to hit otherwise. A couple of those other jumps were the same way, you had to have the perfect foot placement from the arrows before in order to hit them all correctly. - Enjoyability of the song [1/3] The song is ok, but the quick 12th note addition and weird jumps make it annoying to try to combo, making it less fun. TOTAL - 21/30 --------------------- Love Is Eternity (SF Synth Trance Mix) - by will-i-am - Technical accuracy [4/4] FINALLY, a song that isn't worried about the technical lets throw constant streams of arrows because confusing turns are cool in solo mode! - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Wow. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] Best fitting song here. - Use of the extra arrows [8/12] I enjoyed all of it. No real dead times, no awkward moments, just arrows that match the music very well. - Enjoyability of the song [3/3] A+++ Will Play Again. TOTAL - 30/30 Did I mention I liked this chart? --------------------- Over There - by Dark Luke *No changes noticed* - Technical accuracy [2/4] That stop is evil. Technical difficulty is had due to the need to have the exactly right foot positioning from the last arrows, otherwise you have to contort your body weirdly or double-step to catch up. (See measures 40+41) - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Fast, difficult sounding song fits well with the chaos. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] This would be one really hard extra stage. (Although solo didn't have extra stages) - Use of the extra arrows [10/13] Total opposite of Radio Star (below). Arrows and bizzare patterns make you jump back and forth more than a grasshopper being chased by a 5 year old boy. Probability of slipping without using a bar = very likely. (especially if one plays in socks) They were used to make the chart extremely difficult to play, and the fast bpm makes it harder to read with the two solo notes in there, making it even more difficult. Besides for the fact that it's all over the pad, and has several spots that you need to have perfect footwork on; the rest was executed well. Unfortunately those spots stick out more than the rest of the chart. - Enjoyability of the song [2/3] Too hard for me to want to normally play, but good for some TOTAL - 24/30 --------------------- Radio Star - by pokecapn & Azure Haights - Changes made [2/2] SOLO GRAPHICS 4 REALZ. - Technical accuracy [4/4] Nothing technically wrong. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] It's alright. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] Had a feeling of a mediocre DDR chart. - Use of the extra arrows [9/13] Until the chorus, the first half of the chart was fairly well written to stay in the front half of the pad. While this may not be a bad thing normally, I could stay in one position, while barely shifting any weight to hit the arrows. Someone holding onto a bar would have such an easy time on the song due to never having to move it wouldn't be funny. The steps are mediocre and lackluster; but there is nothing technically wrong with them and definitely no awkward stepping (because once again you almost never move until the jumps come). A few spots are double-stepping prone due to the lack of other arrows and slower bpm of the song, so a point for that as well. - Enjoyability of the song [1/3] Another short song, just as the fun starts to be there it's over. (Fun being the 2nd half where I started to have to move) TOTAL - 24/30 --------------------- Samba Brazil - by zeh - Technical accuracy [4/4] Fun chart. - Workability of chart relative to song [3/3] Good. - Playability in the assumed environment (DDR) [5/5] No problems, no super small, fast bursts of arrows that DDR shouldn't have. Good. - Use of the extra arrows [12/15] Best crossovers with the solo arrows I've seen. The only problems I had with the chart is the sectino that just featured the corner-up arrows and the left/right arrows back and forth. If you weren't trying to double-step, it would be a nice swing, but that section of just those steps back and forth has no other arrows around it, making it a prime spot to be lazy and double-step. The rest was great though. I probably wouldn't have had the last freeze have the other arrows be pressed as quick, but that's minor. - Enjoyability of the song [3/3] Good beat, steps made it feel like I was swinging back and forth like I would be dancing to some soft of music like this, very fun.
