Here are some preliminary comments before I get to the real thing: -All charts played at 1x speed. I'm one of the .00001% of DDR players that don't use mods. -If you'd like me to elaborate on something, or if you'd like to comment on my judgings, do not be afraid to PM me on Bemanistyle (Zounder) or IM me on AIM (SF Zounder). -All charts within each file were played and scored in the following order: Light, Standard, Heavy, Challenge (if applicable). I don't mean I played every light chart, then every standard chart, etc. I graded each file completely before continuing on, but this was the order in which I scored each step section. -When I first judged for DDROSC3 and 3+, I gave rather generous scores. In OSC4, my scores dipped down tremendously. We'll see what happens with OSC5! -Credit goes to Juub and the_ditz for my scoring system. Every positive comment will have a "+" before it. These comments are good things about the file. Every negative comment will have a "-" before it. These comments explain points lost, and provide constructive criticism. A neutral, silly, or random comment will have a "|" before it. These comments mean nothing at all towards the grade. Here is how I will be scoring, with some comments: ~~SCORING METHOD~~ Song /15 -Quality /2 | If the song is fuzzy or muted, enjoyment is lowered, and points will be taken off. -Creativity /4 | Any song from a bemani/rhythm based game will have one point removed from this score. Why? Because if the song was already used in a rhythm game, using it for DDR isn't really a creative choice, is it? And it's only one point, so don't go ballistic on me. | If the song is generic techno/J-pop/trance, or really any kind of generic genre featured over and over again in DDR. expect points to be deducted. -Edit /4 | There will be two subcategories for this section: Cut and length, each worth two points. The song should be somewhere near the 1:00-2:00 range, but there's a change that a song could be 1:50 and I may find it to be too long of a cut if it's repetitive or boring. Cut focuses on how the song begins and ends, and what parts of the song are included in the cut. -Appropriate /5 | When I hear the song, I should be thinking to myself, "Wow, this would be great on a DDR arcade machine." Songs that are DDR Appropriate have a heavy drum/bass beat in the background, and the songs are usually lively and upbeat. If the song is repetitive, good, varied steps can make up for it, but if the steps are bad, boring, or the same thing over and over, I may notice the repetitiveness. Graphics /15 -Banner /7 --Author and song title /3 --Aesthetic appeal /3 --Proper size/format /1 -Background /8 --Song title /3 --Aesthetic Appeal /4 --Proper size/format /1 | I'm not too much of a stickler on graphics, but the text should be easy to read, and the graphics should fit the song. | If it's blatantly evident you cropped the background to make the banner, or found an image on the internet and added text, I will take one point off, because it shows a small lack of effort. -Basic /15 --Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty /3 --Fun /12 -Standard /20 --Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty /3 --Fun /17 -Heavy /25 --Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty /3 --Fun /22 | Let me clarify a few terms I use: "Flow" -If a chart has good flow, it doesn't have many double steps. Bad flow means many double steps. "Double steps" -Using the same foot to hit two or more consecutive unique arrows. Example: The pattern UDLRUDLRUDLR does not contain any double steps, assuming the left foot begins on the up arrow and the right foot begins on the down arrow. However, URLDURLDURLD has double steps because a player must turn away from the screen in order to alternate arrows. Double steps are generally bad things when used in 8th note streams (like End of the Century), but are usually ok when used in 4th notes. "Step-jump patterns" -a single arrow and a jump consectuively in an 8th note stream. I really don't like the use of this unless the song calls for it. Also, some step-jump patterns like a left arrow followed by a left-right jump are fine, since the first arrow and the jump share an arrow in common (the left), but seeing step-jump patterns like up arrows followed by a left-right jump too often really annoys me. Don't get me wrong, this works in many songs, but seeing it too often in places it shouldn't be is bad. "Unecessary freezes" -A freeze arrow that is so small that if I were to press it and let go of it immediately, it would still register. If that happens, then it doesn't need to be there, hence, unecessary. It's very unprofessional and has virtually no purpose. | I used the "Bug-free" section to comment on BPM changes and such, which I figuered was appropriate. Even if it is the improper place to do so, I would have just taken off/added points to the "fun" section anyway, so your scores would not change either way. Tilt /10 | For the purpose of simplicity I have combined the /3 and /7 into /10, but I still commented on both categories. I take many things into consideration for this: Overall quality of the stepcharts is probably the most important, which means that if you have three solid charts you will do better here. I also take into consideration the overall presentation of the file, meaning graphics, extras, and other things that polish the simfile. And of course, a little personal tilt is thrown in there, since it's called tilt, after all. For example, if one major flaw brought the simfile's score down by a lot, I may give a rather high tilt if I really enjoyed everything else. Also, I may bump it up a point or two if I really really liked the song. Take note that these are very small additions, though. Basically, the tilt score will be in direct relation to how much I enjoyed the simfile as a whole. Let's begin! ~~24- jem~~ ~~~~~Song 14/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 4/4 + You're right, you don't see many songs about death in DDR + And the feel of the song is rather unique as well Edit 3/4 - A tad long, maybe could have something after the first chorus + Good cut Appropriate 5/5 + Good beat + Danceable + Suprisingly seems to work wonderfully with DDR! ~~~~~Banner 6/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 2/3 + 24 text is appropriate + Artist text is nice - But the background is a bit bland Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 7/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 3/4 + I like the way the numbers are used + Color scheme fits the song - Still a bit plain though Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 14/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 2/3 - Corner jumps in a 2 footer isn't appropriate, but otherwise worthy of 2 feet Fun 12/12 + Excellent use of freezes + Also exellent use of jumps + Good rhntyh followed + Good flow + Flawless light chart! ~~~~~Standard 17/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 14/17 + Freezes seemed a bit in excess this time around + Great flow + Use of jumps was good... - ...except for the jump-freeze patterns, which seemed a bit awkward on a standard chart + Rhythm followed was brilliantly fun for a standard chart - Though the patterns seemed a bit overly difficult at times... would have liked to see more simpler 8th note runs (LRL, UDU) then more complex ones (URD, DRL) + Still, this is an amazing standard chart, nicely done! ~~~~~Heavy 17/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 14/22 - I really wasn't feeling the use of 16ths in this chart... Going for a simple approach would have been much more effective + Step-jump patterns were very appropriate and fun + Use of freezes is good - Jumps didn't feel like they belonged in the quiet section + Good flow + I liked the spin - Some of the non-16th rhythms followed seemed a bit random | Average heavy chart, with ups and downs throughout ~~~~~Tilt 6/10~~~~~ + Light and Standard are very fun... - ...But the showcase of any simfile should be it's heavy chart, and that is very lacking in this simfile, I probably wouldn't play it again + And I must say the song is awesome + Presentation is professional - Can't get over the heavy chart though =( + Still, a solid file overall ~~~~~TOTAL 81/100~~~~~ ~~Action Radius- Sonic Mayhem~~ ~~~~~Song 7/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 1/4 - Very generic techno Edit 2/4 - The silent part in the middle fit well, but the opening should have been made shorter + Good length Appropriate 2/5 + Sounds like it would fit perfectly in DDR - But the song is extremely repetitive ~~~~~Banner 6/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 2/3 + The blur seems fitting - But makes it a bit difficult to read + Simple but effective Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 7/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 3/4 + Once again, simple but effective - Could have been spiced up a bit though Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 5/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 1/3 - Way too difficult for a light chart, though 5 feet is appropriate Fun 4/12 - Double steps galore, which would be ok except for the fact that 8th notes are involved in this chart - Speaking of which, way too many 8th notes here... some are ok, like during the chorus, but parts like the opening have way too many for a light chart. + Good rhythm followed - Ending is a bit bland, though not much can be done due to the cut of the song ~~~~~Standard 2/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 2/3 - Should be 7 feet Fun 0/17 - Steps begin much earlier than light - Unecessary freezes - Double steps galore - Through the first two thirds of the song, the only difference from light is little more than changing the position of a few arrows and making the 16ths - Through the last third of the song, the only difference from light is little more than turning regular arrows into freezes! - very little effort put into this chart. - Also, it's entirely too difficult for a standard chart, despite the fact that heavy is 10 feet. This is mostly because of the double steps. - Really, there's nothing fun at all about this chart, sadly =( ~~~~~Heavy 3/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 0/22 - See standard... remarkable similarites in both the standard and heavy chart, double steps, etc. - Once again, not fun at all =( ~~~~~Tilt 0/10~~~~~ - When the light and standard charts show no effort and are no fun at all, it doesn not make me enjoy the file as a whole, and certainly does not make me want to play it again ~~~~~TOTAL 30/100~~~~~ ~~Ai-n! Dance no Uta- Minimoni~~ ~~~~~Song 13/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 3/4 + Pretty strange, even for J-pop + Pretty unique comination of J-pop and techno sounds - Still, a chorus of Japanese girls is rather generic Edit 4/4 + Good length + Good cut Appropriate 4/5 + Synth makes this song perfect for DDR - Slightly repetitive + Still a very fitting choice overall ~~~~~Banner 6/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 2/3 + Nice use of colors in the background - Hard to read the black text + Colored text is nice Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 8/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 4/4 + Flows into the video nicely + Appropriate for the song Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 13/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 10/12 + Good flow + Rhythms followed are perfect for a light chart - I know there's not much else that can be done, but the steps duriing the "AI~N!" parts were awkward + Great patterns used, especially during the "daffunda" and "ai ai ai ai" parts + Great light chart overall ~~~~~Standard 19/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 16/17 + The steps during the synth section were PERFECT, loved the jumps and rhythm followed there + GOod use of jumps throughout + Patterns are fun and appropriate for standard - But you repeat the same exact pattern during both synth sections + That's my only nitpick, excellent job! ~~~~~Heavy 18/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 15/22 + Good flow - Steps follow the vocals whenever possible, which gets very awkward... I understand that it's unavoidable at some parts (like the AI~N! section) but during the verses, every single vocal was followed, every the ones that fall on 16ths! It was unecessary to go that far + Step-jump patterns are fun and appropriate - The steps for both synth sections are identical, and while that happens in some official DDR steps, it just gets boring playing the same exact step patterns twice in the same song. + Chart is professionally done overall, with a few flaws ~~~~~Tilt 7/10~~~~~ + Despite how much this song irks me and how freaky the video is, I keep coming back to play it again | I fear I'll have nightmares about the man in this video - Heavy chart was subpar with the rest of the file... + ...But both the presentation and steps are professionally done and show that lots of effort was put into this file ~~~~~TOTAL 84/100~~~~~ ~~Blow Me Away- Breaking Benjamin~~ ~~~~~Song 12/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 3/4 + Very unique choice in terms of DDR - But the song itself sounds very generic Edit 4/4 + Good length + Good cut Appropriate 3/5 + Danceable - Yet feels like it lacks a good DDR beat, the guitars drown out much of the drums ~~~~~Banner 5/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 1/3 - Text is small, making it hard to read - Text does not stand out, making it hard to read + Background of banner is nice Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 6/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 2/4 - Can barely read the text again + Nice effects Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 6/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 1/3 - Twice the BPM it should be Fun 5/12 - Steps followed nothing but the vocals, which makes it awkward and boring, try varying the rhythms next time - Freezes were in excess + Decent flow - A tad too many jumps ~~~~~Standard 9/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 0/3 - BPM - Should be 7 feet due to 8th note stream Fun 9/17 + Follows more varied rhythms this time - Freezes are still in excess, also, a couple unecessary freezes present - Double steps galore - step-jump patterns a big no-no at this BPM on standard - OVerall, the 8th note use was inappropriate for a standard chart, and for this BPM + Better than light, but still has numerous flaws ~~~~~Heavy 5/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 0/3 - BPM - Should be 10 feet due to double steps and 16ths Fun 5/22 - See every single thing I said about standard, except replace "standard" with "heavy" - The use of 16th in patterns like LDLDL and RDRDRD is fine, but LURUL is not fine - Double steps are very very awkward and plentiful this time around, which makes this chart not enjoyable at all, try testing your work on a pad next time - Really not that much fun at all =( ~~~~~Tilt 0/10~~~~~ - Not something i'd play again - Just entirely too many double steps to be enjoyable at all, sadly, test your work on a pad next time | Also, in response to something you said on the forums, don't worry about adding hard parts-- I have found that charts are never "too easy" but are many times "too hard", so if the chart seems easy to you then it's probably ok! ~~~~~TOTAL 44/100~~~~~ ~~Disco Dog- Asletics~~ ~~~~~Song 11/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 2/4 - Slightly generic techno + But the barking dog and strange voice makes up for it a bit - from IIDX Edit 4/4 + Good length + Good cut Appropriate 5/5 + Good beat, danceable + Mixed rhythms + Therefore opportunities for varied steps + Great choice overall ~~~~~Banner 5/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 1/3 - Dog image is kind of fuzzy + Yet appropriate for the song - Text doesn't really stand out too well - Song and artist text/font are very similar Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 7/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 3/4 + Clever + A dog in a disco is appropriate and funny - Text is still very plain Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 11/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 8/12 + Good flow - Very little effort shown in step patterns, just seemed randomly made with attention only paid to flow and nothing else + Good use of freezes - No breaks in the arrows at all, which is especially important for a light chart, since light players need a few moments during the song to rest + Solid overall though ~~~~~Standard 20/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 17/17 + 8th note use was fun and appropriate for standard + Good flow + Jumps were placed nicely + Nothing really to nitpick about the chart, well done! ~~~~~Heavy 19/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 16/22 + Good flow + Some of the simpler 16th runs I did enjoy - But the ones that had three or five in a row of all non-alternating arrows were unecessary and awkward, given the feel of the song + Very good understanding of the rhythm, and stream was placed nicely other than those 16th debacles - Jumps at the end were very much in excess, that is, the UD jumps over and over + The ones before that were nicely placed though + Decent chart overall ~~~~~Tilt 6/10~~~~~ + Fun song choice + Steps are professionally made - Those complicated heavy patterns turn me off from playing the file again + But there are many things about this file that are enjoyable, such as the great standard chart. ~~~~~TOTAL 79/100~~~~~ ~~Domino- Alvin~~ ~~~~~Song 9/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 1/4 - Pretty generic choice overall - The synth rhtyhm is also very generic, even for eurobeat Edit 1/4 - The opening lasts way too long - Lots of silence at the end of the mp3 Appropriate 5/5 + Eurobeat is excellent for DDR + Screams DDR overall, I can definitely see this song on an official mix ~~~~~Banner 7/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 3/3 + Text stands out nicely + Great effects + Very professionally done Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 7/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 3/4 + Haha, dominoes + Text stands out nicely - Very generic effect done to the dominoes + Still good overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 10/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 1/3 - Both BPM changes were highly inappropriate and awkward Fun 9/12 - During the first third of the chart, the rhythm you followed seemed very random, and so did the use of jumps + Both improve as the song goes on, though + Good flow + Difficulty could have been easily overdone, but it wasn't so nicely done there + Solid chart overall ~~~~~Standard 13/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 1/3 - Both BPM changes were highly inappropriate and awkward Fun 12/17 - A few too many spins throughout + Good flow otherwise + Use of 8ths was fun and appropriate for standard - I have no clue what the deal was with all of those 16ths at the start, they were following something so quiet in the song that it wasn't worth following + Good use of freezes ~~~~~Heavy 13/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 1/3 - Both BPM changes were highly inappropriate and awkward Fun 12/22 - 8th notes at double BPM? No thanks + 8th note streams are appropriate otherwise - Double steps during the chorus + But an otherwise fun chorus - I still don't like the 16ths following something so quiet near the start ~~~~~Tilt 4/10~~~~~ - Those BPM changes really bugged me + Videos are awesome - I couldn't really enjoy this file due to the those nasty BPM changes and double steps on heavy, not something I'd like to play again, but otherwise it still shows potential ~~~~~TOTAL 63/100~~~~~ ~~Dragostea Din Tei- O-Zone~~ ~~~~~Song 12/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 1/4 - This song has been stepped how many times now? =/ + Still, the silly vocals make this pretty unique Edit 4/4 + Good length + Good cut Appropriate 5/5 + Danceable + Good beat + Rhythm perfect for DDR + Just begs to be made into a DDR song ~~~~~Banner 5/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 1/3 + Gary is silly - Even your readme couldn't quite explain why there's an airplane in the banner - Text is kind of blocky and unappealing + But the text stands out pretty well Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 7/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 3/4 - You used the cd cover... + ...But you fixed it up nicely - Text is still bocky + Image is solid overall | But those dudes are creeping me out, especially the one in the middle Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 12/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 9/12 + Good flow - No breaks in the arrows at all, which is especially important for a light chart, since light players need a few moments during the song to rest + Good use of jumps + Appropriate and fun patterns used throughout that followed the song well - The continuous section of left arrows near the start was awkward and didn't seem to fit + Solid light chart overall ~~~~~Standard 17/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 14/17 + Decent flow, but not as good as it was on light - I would have not followed the vocals so closely at the start + But the rhythm you followed improves throughout the rest of the song + 8th note patterns fun and appropriate for standard + Once again, solid chart overall ~~~~~Heavy 19/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 16/22 - You followed the vocals way too closely. The vocals in this song are such that following them too closely makes the steps very awkward. I would have loved to have some small 8th note runs instead of steps following the vocals so closely. + The chorus' steps were a bit better than the rest, and I did enjoy them a lot + Decent flow, but not as good as light + good use of jumps ~~~~~Tilt 5/10~~~~~ - After seeing this song stepped so much it really isn't fun to play anymore, so the replay value is drastically lowered + Still, I have to admit the song is catchy - Some flaws scattered throughout + Still, steps were solid all around ~~~~~TOTAL 77/100~~~~~ ~~DREAM OF YOU- ALVIN~~ ~~~~~Song 12/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 1/4 - Eurobeat is not very original - EVen the synth rhythm is pretty generic Edit 4/4 + Good length + Good cut Appropriate 5/5 + Eurobeat fits DDR wonderfully + Danceable rhythms and good beat + FUn song overall, I can definitely see this in an official DDR mix | I think I gave near identical comments here for both Alvin songs o.O ~~~~~Banner 7/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 3/3 + Simply beautiful + Text stands out nicely Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 8/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 4/4 + Once again, amazing + Excellent effects Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 15/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 12/12 + Good flow + I liked the use of jumps, especially during the "Dream of you" parts + I loved the freeze-step patterns towars the end + Good patterns used + Great rhythm followed, very fitting for light + Excellent job overall with this chart, I can't find anything to nitpick! ~~~~~Standard 16/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 13/17 + Good flow + Great rhythm follwod, once again fitting for the difficulty - While this is definitley 7 feet, I think it's a bit too difficult for standard. Between the 8th note runs that don't alternate arrows, the freeze-step aptterns, and the pivots, I think this has heavy chart written all over it. + That being said, the patterns used are very fiting for the song | If this was a heavy chart, I'd praise the use of jumps and the 8th note streams as well ~~~~~Heavy 22/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 19/22 + Flash in the Night indeed! Pretty difficult for a 9 footer but the 16th run seems perfectly fit for DDR + Loved the jumps - But the whole chart felt like I was either stepping in an 8th note run or a jump, and not much time for a break. - Some of the 8th note step-jump patterns bugged me, seemed unecessary + Pivots are fun + I loved the way the chart transitions from insane-16th-note-mayhem to simple 8th note streams so swimmingly + Excellent job overall ~~~~~Tilt 9/10~~~~~ + Professinally done overall + Every chart was enjoyable, which is very rare nowadays, and it's definitely something I'd play again + Very catchy song, I especially like the opening + Not much else to say, A supreme simfile, way to go! ~~~~~TOTAL 89/100~~~~~ ~~Emoticons- Hinoi TEAM~~ ~~~~~Song 13/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 2/4 + Haven't heard a song about Emoticons before - A tad generic, complete with a eurobeat synth rhythm and a young female japanese vocalist Edit 4/4 + Good length + Good cut Appropriate 5/5 + Synth rhythm works great with DDR + In fact, the rest of the song does too + Very danceable + Catchy ~~~~~Banner 7/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 3/3 + For a song titled "Emoticons", I'd expect an emoticon to be present, and it is, and on top of that it's cute | But why is it green? o.O + Text stands out nicely + Nice use of colors + Great job overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 7/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 3/4 + Very clever to use all kinds of emoticons in the background + Nice use of colors - I think it would have been better if the large emoticon and the text werent transparent + Still, nice job overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 12/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 9/12 + Good flow + Fun patterns - Some of the freezes didn't seem to fit + SOlid chart overall ~~~~~Standard 14/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 11/17 + Great rhythms followed + 8th note use is appropriate + Good use of jumps - But there are double steps galore, and when 8th notes become involved, it isn't pretty. Fun 8/15 After all that discussion on the judge boards, you know my stance on this chart, and you also know how I've been instructed to grade it. I really don't believe that 11 footers should be accepted in the DDR section of this contest, but I have been told not to simply take points off because of it's difficulty. That being said, i really am not qualified to grade 11 footers, since I don't know what makes a good 11 footer and what makes a bad 11 footer. I can tell there is good flow. I can tell the rhythm you followed is appropriate. But there are many aspects of this chart that I cannot judge since I am not qualified for it. I can't even pass this on pad. Basically, I am giving the chart points where I know I can, but I'm not going to blindly give points in areas I don't know how to judge. I figure good flow and rhythm are worth about half of the points, and I will give you the benefit of the doubt and round up. ~~~~~Tilt 8/10~~~~~ + Aside from the challenge chart, a simfile with a strong light standard and heavy chart, and a simfile I'd play again deserves kudos. Hopefully this score will make up for the loss of points in the challenge section because I have a feeling the overall quality of the file will not be accurately reflected by my score. ~~~~~TOTAL 78/100~~~~~ ~~Seven- DM Ashura~~ ~~~~~Song 9/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 2/4 - Really generic techno - A rather dull and boring choice + Unique piano rhythms are a redeeming quality Edit 4/4 + Good length + Good cut Appropriate 1/5 - Doesn't really have a dancing feel to it, no real danceable beat + The piano could work though, it has a L'Amour Et La Libertie feel - Very repetitive + A very beautiul song overall, pleasant to the ears ~~~~~Banner 5/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 1/3 - Text is pretty plain + But still effective - You cropped and shruck the background and added text to get this Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 8/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 4/4 + Neat image + Text stands out better this time + Much improved over the banner, great overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 6/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 3/12 + Good flow - You kept repeating that pattern with 3 4ths followed by 3 8ths, and that got boring fast - Entirely too many 8th notes for a light chart for a song like this, try to keep it simple next time - The patterns used towards the end seemed very random and often didn't follow the music - Not a very enjoyable chart, sadly ~~~~~Standard 6/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 3/17 - Awful flow, double steps galore, very awkward - Every time the piano was playing the steps followed it, which was uncreative and boring - When the piano wasn't playing the steps were extremely repetitive + One part that wasn't repetitive was the 8th note stream near the end... - ...But it was just a bunch of alternating arrow sequences that was also very boring - Once again, not much to enjoy about the chart ~~~~~Heavy 8/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 5/22 - Many similar complaints from standard... Double steps and spins galore, try checking your steps on a pad in the future - you followed the piano was too strictly again + But at least this time there was a measure or two where you followed a different beat! - The bad news is that's the same repetitive beat you followed through much of the rest of the chart, which got boring - What was with all of those 16ths??? Very uncalled for, you don't see anything in official DDR charts like that - Once again, unenjoyable overall =( ~~~~~Tilt 0/10~~~~~ - I honestly didn't enjoy this file at all, not something I'd play again, test your steps out on a pad and I bet your skills will drastically improve ~~~~~TOTAL 42/100~~~~~ ~~Shake It Down- good-cool~~ ~~~~~Song 14/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 3/4 - From Beatmania + Don't find many disco style songs in DDR + Unique rhythms Edit 4/4 + Good length + good cut Appropriate 5/5 + Reminds me of Spind the Disc + Therefore very much DDR-like + Great rhythms and beat suits DDR perfectly | It took this long for somebody to step this song for a competition? Great hidden wonder from Beatmania! ~~~~~Banner 7/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 3/3 + Song sounds like Spin the Disc, so the banner should too! + Nice use of colors + text stands out nicely + Great job overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 8/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 4/4 + Silhouette is a nice touch + Nice use of colors again + text is great again as well + great graphics overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 14/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 11/12 + Good flow + Patterns and rhythm followed are both appropriate for light, and enjoyable - Those coupled jumps seemed unecessary, given the soft nature of the song at that point + That's my only nitpick of the chart, nicely done overall ~~~~~Standard 18/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 15/17 + Good flow + Fun and enjoyable patterns used throughout - I would have liked to see some simpler 8th note patterns used instead of the 16th patterns during the verse, just seemed unecessary to get that specific with the vocals on standard + 16th use otherwise is great though + Another solid chart, great job ~~~~~Heavy 23/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 20/22 + Good flow + Loved the spins in the chorus + Great understanding of the rhythm of the music is refected in the steps + varied patterns throughout the chart + I liked most of the pivots... - ...But there were quite a few, and it got awkward after awhile + Freeze-only sections were nicely placed + Excellent heavy chart overall! ~~~~~Tilt 9/10~~~~~ + Awesome videos + Profesionally done simfile as a whole + A simfile with strong light, standard, and heavy charts is hard to find-- outstanding simfile overall! Definitely something I'd play again. + Also the highest score I gave in this bracket, congratulations! ~~~~~TOTAL 93/100~~~~~ ~~The Great Blue Sky and the Stars Above- Jun Ishikawa and Dan Miyakawa~~ ~~~~~Song 6/15~~~~~ Quality 1/2 - Sounds muted Creativity 2/4 - Sounds just like a generic video game song + But has a bit of a unique feel to it Edit 2/4 - Way too long + Good cut otherwise Appropriate 1/5 - No beat to follow at all - Barely danceable - Rather repetitive + It's catchy... - But this really does not belong in DDR at all. ~~~~~Banner 4/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 0/3 - I can barely read the song title text because of the clouds - Really bad choice of color for the text, try making the text contrast more next time - Font choice is very plain - And the banner as a whole is very poorly put together, I suggest getting a few image editing tips for next time Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 6/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 2/4 + Much better than the banner - But it's clear this image was already made and you just added text - The plain white in the background is bland + But Kirby looks awesome + Text stands out better than in the banner Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 7/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 4/12 + Good flow + Nice rhythms followed - But the patterns you chose were very uninspired and seemingly randomly placed, and didn't reflect anything in the song... doesn't show much effort - 16ths on light mode makes me a sad panda - A few strong points in the chart but it could be much better ~~~~~Standard 10/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 7/17 + Good flow - Still couldn't really get into the 16th use, even though it was appropriate for standard + Good use of jumps near the end - There were two long runs of all 4th notes that seemed very uninsipred and boring, without much thought put into them at all - Freezes were very much in excess, some fitthe song, but many did not - Like light, some good points, but a lot to improve upon ~~~~~Heavy 14/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 11/22 + Good flow - You followed nothing except the main rhythm just about the entire time, which made ths steps uninspired, boring, and awkward - Freeze use was more moderate this time but still in excess + You did vary the step patterns nicely, though - Solid chart but more creativity would have been very nice ~~~~~Tilt 3/10~~~~~ - I really didn't enjoy this file at all, mostly due to the fact that the song doesn't work with DDR, and partially because the steps were so uninspired and dull. - Not something I'd play again + There were some bright spots to build upon... - ...But as a whole, the simfile is lacking ~~~~~TOTAL 50/100~~~~~ ~~These Emotions- Benjamin Diamond~~ ~~~~~Song 10/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 2/4 - Kind of a plain choice - doesn't really stand out to me in any way + Don't really see much of this genre in DDR though Edit 2/4 - A bit too long, should have probably cut off one of the choruses at the end - That silent part after the first chorus really bugged me, didn't seem to flow with the rest of the song + Otherwise fine Appropriate 4/5 - As I said before, it's kind of plain and dull + But it has a good beat + And it's danceable + Therefore it's a pretty solid choice for DDR ~~~~~Banner 6/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 2/3 + Simple but effective - Title text is a bit hard to read since it doesn't stand out much + Artist text is bolder and easier to read, but title text should be bigger - Image could have used a bit more flre but it's solid Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 5/8~~~~~ Song title 2/3 - It's there but it's really small and pushed to the right of the image! Aesthetic Appeal 2/4 - Taken right from the cd cover, which doesn't show much effort + But it still works Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 9/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 6/12 - Stepping into the fadeout is a no-no + Good flow + There are many many freezes but they seem to work for the most part - Generally, many 8th notes are not good in a light chart... try to keep it very simple in the future + I like what you did with the chorus - The use of 8th notes was a big hit to this chart... + ...But it's still relatively solid ~~~~~Standard 6/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 3/17 - Stepping into the fadeout is a no-no - Remarkable similarities between this and the light chart... - Those consectuive 16th on the same arrow didn't fit at all, since you can barely hear the vocals that they follow - The good flow from light is lost in this chart + Some of the step patterns were fun - Unecessary freezes - The section with all the jumps near the end didn't feel right - Most of the points taken off of this score is due to the blatant similarites of the light chart, which shows that little effort was put into this chart ~~~~~Heavy 11/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 8/22 - Stepping into the fadeout is a no-no - Terrible flow once again - Many unecessary freezes + At least you didn't copy this chart from standard... + Also, good job following a mix of the rhythm of the music and the vocals - Still, not much to enjoy about this chart given the plethora of double steps and all the annoying unecessary freezes ~~~~~Tilt 0/10~~~~~ - If you show little to no effort in making your stepcharts then you don't deserve any extra points - Definitely would not play this again ~~~~~TOTAL 47/100~~~~~ ~~Tori no Uta- Lia~~ ~~~~~Song 9/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 1/4 - Generic anime song choice - Generic rhythms as well + Sone of the synth sounds pretty original... - ...But overall, creativity is not the strong point of this song Edit 3/4 + Good length - The first vocal section didn't really have any beat to it... + ...but overall the cut is solid Appropriate 3/5 + Good beat - Has a relaxed feel to it, which isn't always appropriate for DDR + But still a solid choice overall | I don't care if it sounds nothing like the remix, this song is still amazing! ~~~~~Banner 5/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 1/3 - Almost didn't even see the artist text! - Anime character on banner is never too original + Title text stands out nicely + Image looks professional overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 8/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 4/4 + First frame of video is cool with me + Text is well done + And image is well done overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 14/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 11/12 + Good flow + Nice patterns, fun and fit for light + great rhythm followed, also fit for light + Good use of jumps - My only nitpick is at the very end, all those arrows before the jumps are only up and down arrows, I would have liked to have seen a little more variation there + Excellent light chart overall ~~~~~Standard 19/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 16/17 + Good flow + Excellent use of freezes, they felt perfectly placed + Great patterns used, fun and appropriate for standard + Samw goes for the rhythm you followed - Single nitpick: A couple jumps near the start that fell on 8ths seemed a bit awkward, and while they reflected a beat in the music, it didn't seem to flow with the rest of the chart + Near flawless standard chart, nicely done ~~~~~Heavy 23/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 20/22 + Good flow + Gallops were fun + 8th note streams were amazingly placed, and fun to play - It's very difficult to hear what part of the music the 16ths are following during the verse unless the volume is cranked up + But the 16th runs at the end worked nicely + SOlid chart overall, excellent job ~~~~~Tilt 7/10~~~~~ + The song is cool to listen to - But still does not stike me as something fit for DDR, and for this reason, some enjoyment was taken away from each of the stepcharts + Still, solid light, standard, and heavy stepcharts in a simfile is hard to come by, and it's something I'd play again ~~~~~TOTAL 85/100~~~~~ ~~Under The Sea- A Teens~~ ~~~~~Song 13/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 4/4 + Really neat remix + Unique rhythms + A genre not really touched upon in DDR often + Very creative choice! Edit 3/4 - A bit on the long side, the bridge should have probably been left out + Good cut Appropriate 4/5 + Good beat + Danceable - Might be a little bit chaotic for DDR + but still works great overall ~~~~~Banner 7/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 3/3 + Underwater feel is appropriate + Text is well done, and stands out well + Excellent job overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 8/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 4/4 + Same as the banner, beautiful Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 9/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 6/12 + Good flow - The first group of arrows were all left and right, which was boring, even for 2 feet + The progression of difficulty through the chart is fitting - But the gap between the start and the end is too much. You start with one arrow per measure and turn it into 4 by the end, which is a very large increase in stream for 2 feet + Fun step patterns used aside from the beginning ~~~~~Standard 12/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 9/17 + Good flow - the increase in difficulty from start to end is once again very large. You start out with 4ths and simple 8th note streams and then throw in this long 8th note run! - The first chorus followed the vocals way too much and stood out like a sore thumb, since... + ...The rest of the chart followed a nice mix of vocals and background rhythms - Some of these rhythms you followed so close that you needed many 16ths, which isn't good for standard. Don't be afraid to follow the general rhythm of the song with simple 8th note runs ~~~~~Heavy 15/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 12/22 + Good flow - You followed the vocals just about the entire time, which was very boring and awkward + Towards the end you followed some background rhythms which was nice - But the patterns you chose during those parts were very bland + I really like how you ended it with the step-jump patterns - The constant stream during the verse was unecessary, would have liked to seen some breaks + Despite following the vocals too much, sthe step patterns used were for the most part enjoyable ~~~~~Tilt 6/10~~~~~ | Samplestart didn't make any sense + Unqiue, fun song choice + Something I'd play again every one in awhile - Steps still need work + But it's a solid simfile overall ~~~~~TOTAL 70/100~~~~~ ~~YOU RAISE ME UP (7" Anthem Mix)- DEJA VU ft. TASMIN~~ ~~~~~Song 12/15~~~~~ Quality 2/2 Creativity 2/4 - Generic dance/techno + But I would never imagine this song could be remixed into a dance tune! Edit 3/4 + Good length - The first half of the first verse was very quiet with no real beat + But the rest of the cut is fine Appropriate 5/5 + Can't get more DDR-able than this + Great beat + Very danceable + Sounds like something pulled right out of an official DDR mix ~~~~~Banner 6/7~~~~~ Author and song title 3/3 Aesthetic appeal 2/3 - You cropped the background for this + The text is amazing + Very professionally done overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Background 8/8~~~~~ Song title 3/3 Aesthetic Appeal 4/4 + Tress and ray of sunshine very appropriate + Text is great once again + Excellent job overall Proper size/format 1/1 ~~~~~Basic 12/15~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 9/12 + Good flow + Many of the freezes were fun and appropriate... - ...Others were not, there were simply too many + Good patterns used, very appropriate for light + Solid chart overall ~~~~~Standard 17/20~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 14/17 + Good flow + Freezes were much better this time around, but some still seemed in excess + Great use of 8th notes, nice step patterns throughout - During the soft opening, many of the steps didn't really follow anything in the music, which was awkward + Great use of jumps + Very solid standard chart, nicely done ~~~~~Heavy 23/25~~~~~ Bug-free/Appropriate difficulty 3/3 Fun 20/22 + Good flow + Very fun step patterns throughout, great use of 8th note streams + Loved the freeze jump patterns - At the end of the first chorus, there's about 8 or 9 jumps in a row, that was very awkward given that the song didn't really call for so many jumps at that point - You started to follow the vocals a little too closely towards the very end, but it didn't last too long + Still, excellent heavy chart overall, very enjoyable ~~~~~Tilt 8/10~~~~~ + Overall presentation is very professional + Having solid light, standard, and heavy charts is something commendable + It's something I'd play again, enjoyable file overall (Nice way to end the bracket too!) ~~~~~TOTAL 86/100~~~~~
